Shirley's Story: Becoming a Caravan and Motorhome Engineer
Shirley Evans approached HabCert with a dream: to become a caravan and motorhome service engineer, choose her own working hours and run her own business.
A Background in Helping People
Shirley began her working life as an international coach driver, but spending weeks away from home was not for her. She wanted a job where she could finish the day knowing she had helped people who needed it.
She joined the AA and retrained as a mobile emergency mechanic, remaining in that role for many years. Alongside her working life, she enjoyed caravanning and later became a motorhome owner.
That combination of mechanical experience and enthusiasm for leisure vehicles led her to explore becoming a caravan and motorhome engineer. When she contacted HabCert, we were happy to help her take the next steps.
Training with MCCT UK

Shirley attended a five-day foundation course at MCCT UK. The course helped her develop the skills and knowledge needed for caravan and motorhome work and prepared her for the practical and written assessments.
She completed the training and assessments, gained her HabCert three-star rating and felt confident about taking the next step into running her own business.
Getting Her Business Started
During her training, Shirley chose the optional business setup package. This included help with registering her limited company and obtaining the insurance her business required.
She also took up the media package, which included a domain name, annual website hosting, a website, a logo and business cards to help promote her new business.

From her first enquiry with HabCert, Shirley had her business up and running in under eight weeks.
Doing the Work She Loves
Shirley told us that making the change was the best thing she had ever done. She described it as a dream come true and said she could not imagine doing anything else.

Her HabCert Three-Star Rating
Shirley is happy working at her HabCert three-star level, with a busy workload already keeping her occupied. She also has the option to take further assessments to progress through the HabCert ratings if she chooses.
